A plea for legislators to join us in the fight against Coronavirus

CHCs need your support in urging Congress to act.

Dear Arkansas Senator,

Many of you are friends and supporters of Community Health Centers (CHCs), and we much appreciate your dedication to the cause.

Some of you may not be as familiar with us. Briefly, we exist to offer health care for those who otherwise might go without, especially in rural areas. Without us, many of your constituents would be forced to travel long distances for routine care. We accept private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and offer a sliding scale for those without insurance.

There are 12 CHCs in Arkansas with more than 130 sites. We treated more than 220,000 Arkansans in every corner of the state last year.

We don't ask the Legislature for much. In fact, we receive no direct state funding.

But now, in this great moment of crisis in our country, we are asking you to lend your influential voice to the ears of the Arkansas Senate and Congressional Delegation in Washington.

CHCs serve on the front lines of healthcare, and in the coming months will need your help more than ever as we all team to fight the Coronavirus pandemic, especially since a good chunk of our funds runs out May 22.

Please communicate with our delegation about our value. Ask them to support the full five-year funding request as put forth by our national association. Ask them to please approve additional funds to fight the virus, including for testing capacity, personal protective equipment, capital needs to construct isolation wards, and treatment capacity for the expected influx of patients.

Our letter to Senator John Boozman, a longtime supporter of health centers, is available here.

A supporting letter from the National Association of Community Health Centers is available here. This letter offers many details and went to U.S. Senate and House leadership this week.

Arkansas CHCs and, most importantly, our patients would greatly appreciate your stepping up.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions. Thank you much.
